Purpose
The Cork School of Music Learning Community aims to create a dedicated Listening and Reading Zone within the CSM library, known as "The Listening Spot." This space provides students with access to high-definition audio equipment, allowing them to engage with the library’s CD and vinyl collections in a relaxed yet focused environment. The initiative seeks to foster deep listening skills, enhance academic engagement, and promote student well-being through music and reading.
Summary of Activities
- Creation of The Listening Spot: A dedicated space for students and staff to access high-quality audio resources.
- Cross-disciplinary Student Involvement: Engagement of students from various disciplines, including an artwork competition to contribute to the space’s design.
- Embedding Focused Listening into Teaching: Encouraging the use of this resource in academic activities to enhance students' aural and listening skills.
- Mental Health and Well-being Support: Promoting mindfulness and relaxation through music and reading.
- Library Engagement and Awareness: Increasing student interaction with library resources and enhancing the overall student experience.
With an anticipated impact on 12,000 students, this initiative is designed to be a permanent and sustainable addition to MTU.
