The Elevate Leadership Development Programme is provided through the Teaching & Learning Unit and was initially launched with support from HEA Systems Performance Funding. Thanks to the success of Elevate and its strong alignment with MTU’s institutional goals, it now continues under the Technological Sector Advancement Fund (TSAF).

Elevate is MTU’s bespoke leadership development programme – open to all colleagues working in the University. It offers leadership skills training on a cohort basis, with a focus on transformation, communication, planning, change, and people management. The programme supports distributed leadership and cross-unit collaboration, and directly contributes to the implementation of the MTU Strategic Plan 2023–2028.

Elevate 2025–2026 Programme Overview

We plan to offer three Elevate strands in the 2025/26 academic year, running from October 2025 to May 2026. Participants will join either a Cork Pod or a Kerry Pod, and will take part in a mix of shared and Pod-specific workshops.

This programme will be delivered in person, as follows:

About the Elevate Programme

The Elevate Leadership Development Programme was originally developed by the Teaching & Learning Unit in collaboration with the MTU Transformation Office and HR Managers. It was first delivered in Semester 2 of 2022–23 and has grown to reflect MTU’s evolving leadership needs.

Elevate is now one strand of a wider TSAF-supported leadership ecosystem, alongside initiatives such as LEAD@MTU for senior leaders, and INTEGRATE – MTU’s early career mentoring programme.

The programme is delivered by Dr Pio Fenton, Ríona Flood, and Alex McColl, and includes participation in Insights Discovery, a psychometric profiling tool grounded in Jungian psychology. Insights helps participants better understand their communication styles, working preferences, and leadership strengths.

Both Elevate and LEAD@MTU place strong emphasis on Emotional Intelligence, drawing from the work of Daniel Goleman.

Programme Impact

Evaluation of the Elevate Leadership Development Programme to date highlights positive impact in areas such as:

  • Confidence in leadership roles
  • Strategic and forward-thinking approaches
  • Enhanced collaboration and team communication
  • Improved alignment between personal development and institutional goals
