Again, as with previous Strategic Alignment of Teaching and Learning Enhancement in Higher Education (SATLE) funding, MTU will continue to allocate a portion of 2023-24 funding (SATLE 2023-24) to support several learning enhancement projects (LEPs).

Information Session

Date: Friday, 17th May 2024

We hosted a 30-minute online information session about learning enhancement projects (LEPs). If you were unavailable to attend, you can download the information session slide deck or watch the following short recording which introduces the programme and outlines what it entails:

Two funding streams are available:

  • LEPs: >=€5000 and <=€20000 for one academic year
  • LEPs+:  >€20000 and <=€35000 per year for up to a maximum of 3 academic years

Funding Stream Criteria

Projects may be completed by a single staff member, or team, but all project proposals must meet the following criteria:

  • Focus on one of three themes specified by the Higher Education Authority (HEA) and the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (NFETLHE)
  1. Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)
  2. Digital Transformation in the Tertiary Sector
  3. Best Practice in Upholding and Cultivating Academic Integrity
  • Align with MTU Strategy
  • Have approval of the relevant Head of Function
  • Have a clearly costed and evidenced budget plan
  • Identify a clear point of impact

In addition, those applying for LEPs+ funding must ensure their project proposals meet the following additional criteria:

  • Be a long-term initiative, 3 years or less, with a comprehensive development and financial plan.
  • Involve and actively engage a wide team of staff, some of whom have been previously involved in successful TLASE activities.
  • Involve active participation by Heads of Function
  • Build on and be informed by existing internal or external TLASE practice/evidence.
  • Demonstrate capacity for at least one of the following:
  1. Expand existing TLASE innovation to a broader reach in MTU,
  2. Enable a range of separate TLASE activities/initiatives to combine into a more coherent offering or project
  3. Transition from an operational (single area/function) TLASE impact to a strategic (cross-department/institution-wide) TLASE impact
  4. Support cross-programme/function/campus TLASE links
  5. Develop and contribute to whole-of-institution/national/international Policy or Practice
  6. Involve collaboration with at least one other Irish Higher Education Institution (HEI)

Finally, the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (NFETLHE) are keen to encourage projects that include student-staff engagement opportunities where possible.
