In this project the TLASE Research Laboratory are collaborating with the University of Oviedo (Spain) and the Institute for Learning & Innovation in Networks at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (Germany) to understand work placement assessment and feedback practice along with the student experience across the three partners. Initial research by MTU revealed the assessment process supports the development of critical graduate attributes but that students are less satisfied with some other aspects e.g. workload, relevance of assessment, assessment challenge (O’Mahony, Murphy & O’Sullivan, 2024). The staff related research informs all INGENIUM universities about best practice in student placement, preparation, assessment and feedback in the different models of internships. The project has created an INGENIUM wider learning community to disseminate the learning and to offer further collaboration across the consortium. INGENIUM staff wishing to learning more can Register for the Learning Community

The team travelled to Oviedo and Gijon in February 2025, Cork and Kerry in September 2025.

For a high level summary of the project, see the i4 Innovative Industry Internships with INGENIUM Poster shown in Oviedo in February 2025.

For more detail, there is a paper entitled WORK-INTEGRATED LEARNING IN PRACTICE: A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF UNDERGRADUATE WORK-PLACEMENT DESIGNS ACROSS DISCIPLINES presented at ICERI 2025.
