Purpose

The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Learning Community is a multidisciplinary learning community led by Clíona Moynihan (Marketing and International Business) and Patricia Doyle (Organisational and Professional Development). This project, funded through the TLU Learning Community Fund, aims to explore and showcase the use of AI for academic purposes. The initiative includes an in-person seminar followed by discussions and refreshments, fostering engagement and knowledge-sharing among staff and students.

Why We Set Up This Learning Community

  • AI is rapidly integrating into educational environments, reshaping the way we teach and learn.
  • While AI presents exciting opportunities, it also brings challenges that require thoughtful discussion and adaptation.
  • We recognised the need for a dedicated space where educators can collaborate, share experiences, and exchange best practices to navigate this evolving landscape effectively.

Summary of Activities

We meet regularly to discuss AI-related challenges, opportunities, and innovations in education. Our activities include workshops, presentations, and expert talks tailored to improving AI adoption in teaching and research.

Recently, we organised an in-person seminar focused on the uses of AI in academia. The seminar featured:

  • Presentation of relevant AI applications and discussions on their impact.
  • Opportunities for networking and further engagement through refreshments.
  • Dissemination of outcomes and insights gained from the seminar.

At this event, we hosted a guest speaker from the field of AI in education, who presented and answered questions. Insights from this session will be integrated into upcoming educational initiatives.
