Project Description
This project’s first phase involves lecturers from MTU identifying research-based, learner-centered teaching strategies for introductory accounting, with students acting as consultants to provide feedback. The goal is to deepen student engagement, reflection, and critical thinking. In the second phase, the project will rigorously evaluate the impact of these strategies and share findings through conferences and local workshops to encourage wider adoption. The project will also explore extending the approach to other modules and collaborating with other institutions.
What is the anticipated impact of this project?
This project will introduce transformative teaching strategies in Introductory Accounting, encouraging students to explain, reflect, and critically evaluate their work. It will impact approx. 750 students across MTU Cork and Tralee enrolled in various related degree programmes. Once developed, these strategies are expected to become embedded and sustainable within the curriculum.
HOW Will the outputs of this project be DISSEMINATED?
Research findings will be shared through conference papers, internal MTU workshops, events, and social media. Key dissemination activities include presenting at the IAFA and BAFA Accounting Education conferences, hosting an internal MTU workshop to engage colleagues, presenting at the MTU ‘TLU Works’ event and the Faculty of Business and Humanities Research Symposium, and using LinkedIn and Twitter to reach a wider audience.
