Project Description
To support students transitioning from post-primary to higher education in textiles and crafts, this project will continue producing educational videos that demonstrate key processes as reusable, sustainable learning resources. Unlike other content, these skills-based videos offer a higher education perspective, enhancing students’ skills, understanding, and retention. Designed with Universal Design for Learning principles, the videos aim to boost engagement, motivation, confidence, and self-efficacy.
What is the anticipated impact of this project?
The project aims to build upon the suite of videos created on processes and techniques from textiles and craft, with the expertise of the TEL team. The videos include visual, audio and narrative support with inclusion of success criteria; vital to allow students to self-assess their work. The impact of digital resources is vast and time infinitive. Supporting all 150 Home Economics students currently enrolled on either our undergraduate or post graduate programmes. It can aid students across other discipline areas e.g. Fashion Marketing. In addition to supporting the students in MTU, our hope is to consolidate a valued and trusted YouTube channel to share and communicate these digital resources to help fill the deficit of these resources in the textile and craft area, on a national level.
HOW Will the outputs of this project be DISSEMINATED?
The project aims to produce 12–15 additional process videos based on student and stakeholder feedback, balancing quality with available resources. These videos will be added to the Canvas platform for easy student access, published on YouTube for global reach, and promoted via the Tourism & Hospitality Department’s social media. Additionally, the resources will be shared on the HEA National Resource Hub to support wider academic use and showcase the project’s impact.
