Module Title: Finance Management

Module Descriptor: 

This module aims to ensure that learners understand the sources of finance available to organisations operating internationally, performance management processes, and the use of available data. This module also aims to ensure that learners can prepare and interpret budgets, financial statements and forecasts, can prepare and review investment appraisals, and can advise on financial decision making including assessments of risk with a focus on organisations operating globally.

Course: BA (Hons) in International Business with Aviation Studies, Equivalent to Undergraduate Year 4

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Appraise proposed capital investments using a range of methodologies in order to advise on their suitability.
  • Evaluate how integrating financial risk with strategic management can enable an organisation to gain a competitive advantage on a global scale.
  • Interpret available data to assist in strategic business decision making and integration of financial risk assessment with strategic management using Microsoft Excel and data visualisation.

TRADITIONAL ASSESSMENT

Evaluate whether Company A should go ahead with the investment project. You should use net present value as the basis of your evaluation.  Explain three other factors that the company should consider before making a final decision about the investment project.

AUTHENTIC ASSESSMENT

CONTEXT

You are a Financial Consultant who has been hired by Cork Airport to advise on their future investment decisions.  The Board of Directors have asked that you develop, cost, appraise and suggest funding options for an investment idea for Cork Airport and present your findings to the Senior Management team at the Airport.  They have also requested a copy of the Microsoft Excel file detailing your workings.  The Board of Directors have also asked that you provide a report which analyses the current performance of the Airport, evaluates the risks associated with future investments and considers the main implications of data analysis.
