Purpose
The DELTA Award Support Learning Community was established to implement the Disciplinary Excellence in Learning, Teaching and Assessment (DELTA) Award action plan within the Department of Sport, Leisure and Childhood Studies.
The department was formally awarded the DELTA Award in June 2023 by the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, recognising its commitment to teaching and learning excellence and its impact on student learning and staff development. This award highlights the department’s innovative approaches, structured capacity-building, and collaborative efforts in enhancing disciplinary teaching and assessment.
This Learning Community was also established to support other MTU discipline teams at various stages of their DELTA Award applications. By fostering collaboration, sharing best practices, and offering structured CPD opportunities, this LC plays a key role in strengthening teaching and learning practices across the university.
Summary
Throughout the 2023-24 academic year, the Learning Community has been actively engaged in implementing its action plan and supporting other academic teams. Regular biweekly meetings have been held to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to enhance teaching and learning. Key activities include:
- CPD Development: Organising and delivering a CPD event focused on high-impact presentation skills to enhance staff teaching effectiveness.
- DELTA Award Support: Engaging with three other discipline teams across MTU to assist in their DELTA Award applications and share insights from the department’s own experience.
- Collaboration and Engagement: Contributing to discussions within the wider DELTA Award network to promote excellence in teaching and learning.
