Active Members

The Learning Community consists of technical staff and research-supporting professionals within MTU. The project has expanded its reach to engage members from other Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and research centres across Ireland, the UK, and France.

Purpose

The Technical Support Staff Learning Community aims to:

  • Raise awareness of the vital role technical staff play in research.
  • Explore best practices in research culture and collaboration.
  • Develop a wider network of technical professionals across HEIs.

Learning Community Activities 2023-24

  • Research Culture Webinar

  • Explored how Queen's University Belfast includes technical staff and research-supporting personnel in its Research Culture Action Plan.
  • Attended by multiple staff, including academic and PMSS (Professional, Managerial, and Support Staff).
  • Network Webinar: Building a Collaborative All-Island Technical Network
  • Aimed at expanding the Learning Community’s remit to include members from other HEIs.
  • Attracted 150 registrants from 37 HEIs and research centres (primarily from Ireland, with some from the UK and France).
  • Provided insight into existing technical networks in the UK and their benefits for CPD, networking, and best practices.
  • In-Person Coffee Morning
    • Designed to formally launch the expanded Learning Community within MTU.
    • Intended to attract new members and foster engagement among technical staff.
