PROJECT MISSION

This team focused on innovative ways of delivering feedback. Their ideas included a traffic light system for students to use in setting targets for their own achievements. The team had an ambitious idea around possible enhancements to Canvas to create a dedicated feedback loop module and even found a simple workaround using existing Canvas features.

Team members

  • Aleks Gordikovs - Biomedical Engineering Student
  • Joan-Olivea Adeshina - Business Student
  • Clionadh Fahy - MSc Digital Marketing
  • Sarah Burguin - MSc Digital Marketing Strategies
  • Roddy O' Keeffe - Lecturer - Dept of Musicianship & Academic Studies
  • Professor Jim O' Mahony - Lecturer - Dept of Biological Sciences
  • Brigid Walsh - Dept of Tourism & Hospitality
  • with input from Kelsey Hough

project motivation

This team were interested in what quality feedback looks like, how often feedback should be delivered, and at ideas around how we know that feedback is working. They then set out to create and implement new, innovative ideas to create resources to deliver feedback that is both beneficial and accessible.

project outputs

  • The Traffic Light System:
    • The Traffic Light System is based on Kelsey's personal progression system for assignments.
    • Red, Amber and Green are synonymous of how well students could do in an assignment prior to submission - a useful system for students to adapt and can be applied across multiple courses.
    • Feed-forward is an effective way for students to apply feedback and self-improve in assignments - also aiming for green.
    • Will require students to engage in setting their own learning expectations/targets orachievement (beyond the module/course).
    • This will allow lecturers to provide more personalised and relevant feedback for each individual learner.

In the following video, Roddy O' Keefe shows how the feedback loop works, using existing Canvas features.
