Purpose

The Laboratory Practical’s Learning Community (LC) was established to foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing among staff involved in teaching laboratory-based modules. The LC provides a platform for staff to discuss best practices, explore innovative teaching methodologies, and address common challenges in delivering effective and engaging laboratory practicals. By facilitating discussions and workshops, the LC aims to enhance the learning experience for students, improve the efficiency of lab sessions, and promote consistency in laboratory teaching across the department.

Summary

  • The LC held three meetings during the year, each featuring presentations from a range of departmental speakers.
  • Discussions focused on best practices for laboratory practicals, including teaching strategies, assessment methods, and resource optimisation.
  • Staff shared their experiences, challenges, and solutions, fostering a collaborative environment for continuous improvement.
  • Plans are in place to continue developing the LC next year, with a focus on further engagement and implementation of shared strategies.
